Claero (Aviation)
Privacy Policy
Effective 28 July 2026 · Sprocket Science · com.sprocketphysics.claero.avi
Claero (Aviation) measures aircraft aerodynamic drag from phone sensors and avionics data logs. This policy says exactly what it collects, why, and who else sees it.
What we collect
| Data | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Identifies your account so your data reaches the right place. | Stored with your account. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we only ever see Apple's relay address. |
| Your measurements and equipment | The recorded runs, vehicles, wheels and rider details the app exists to produce and compare. | Stored in your account so it survives reinstalling and reaches your other devices. |
| Crash diagnostics | Anonymous crash and error reports, so faults get fixed. | Not linked to your identity. |
| Precise location | Measuring speed, distance and elevation during a run, resolving the local acceleration of gravity, and finding the nearest weather observation. | Linked to your account. |
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Location | Precise location while you use the app. |
| Motion & Fitness | The accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer. iOS keeps the barometer behind this permission; no fitness or activity data is recorded. |
| Bluetooth | Connecting to sensors you pair — power meters, speed and cadence sensors, heart-rate straps, OBD-II adapters and weather meters. |
| Microphone and Speech Recognition | Hands-free voice commands (“start”, “stop”, “mark”). Speech is recognised entirely on your device — no audio leaves it, and nothing is recorded or stored. |
Every one of these is optional at the system level. Declining a permission disables the feature that needs it and nothing else.
Who else receives data
- Weather data. Your coordinates are sent to NOAA's Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) to look up conditions near you. They are not sent with any identifier, and we do not store them.
- Google Firebase. Authentication, cloud storage (Firestore) and crash reporting (Crashlytics), operated by Google as our processor. See Firebase privacy.
- Apple. Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details.
- Avionics logs. Flight-data files you import are read on your device from a file you choose.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your measurements stay in your account until you delete them.
You can delete your account from inside the app, at any time and without asking us: Settings → Account → Delete account. That permanently erases the account and everything stored with it — every session, notebook, vehicle and wheel. It is immediate and cannot be undone.
Signing out is not the same thing: it leaves your data in place for next time. Deleting your account also does not cancel an App Store subscription, which is managed by Apple in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. If you can no longer sign in to delete the account yourself, email support@claerodynamics.com from the address you signed up with and we will erase it for you.
Children
Claero (Aviation) is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you. Email support@claerodynamics.com and we will action it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the effective date above and, where the change affects what we collect, note it in the app's release notes.
